About the event

High school students who have learning disabilities, mild intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, severe dyslexia, or language acquisition problems are unable to read most regular textbooks. Students with serious reading problems are often excluded from the opportunities to learn algebra, geometry, biology, physics and chemistry, and other subjects because they cannot read the textbooks, supplemental materials, or the tests. It is not easy for teachers to find resources and texts that address grade-level standards, but are written at low reading levels.

That’s where Firelight Books comes in! The Elements Curriculum was designed by a teacher for students reading at second to fourth grade levels. The subject matter is the same as what their gen ed peers are learning, but it’s written in a way that students with reading challenges can understand. It reduces frustration, boosts confidence, and promotes positive behavior in and out of the classroom.
